Aristois not launching

I downloaded it from the site and when i go to launch it it just opens minecraft launcher. it was installed as a .jar file and other times when i open it it asks me what i would like to open it with.

Did you run the installer and follow the install instructions? What profile are you launching in the launcher?

yes i have java downloaded but when i try to run the installer it says unable to install java there are errors in the following switches. and it shows the launcher file

Then the java is corrupt or otherwise isn't set up correctly. You can change the windows settings for jar files to launch using javaw.exe from the java folder or you can run java -jar to execute the file in command prompt instead (or just use the manual zip method instead)

so should i delete then redownload everything?

That most likely will not fix anything, I gave multiple options that you can try in my previous message.

i tried using java - jar and it says couldnt create virtual machine
